Srinagar, Nov 9: Over a thousand families in the City opted Qurbani services through various educational organizations and orphanages where the sacrificial animals were slaughtered on behalf of the people.
 Asadullah War, senior member of the JK Yateem Trust said the organization went for Qurbani on the behalf of around 350 families. The Trust which runs orphanages at places like Soura went for the Qurbani at its Gopalpora orphanage.
 Apart from the families, which had paid money for the Qurbani, others too went to the venues to collect their share of meat. Shafaat Ahmed of Chanapora said his family had opted for the services through Darul Uloom Bilaliya in Lal Bazar area.
 ”It gives a kind of satisfaction to see the sacrificial animals getting slaughtered through such organizations because a considerable share of the meat goes towards the deserving poor,” Shafaat told Greater Kashmir while witnessing the Qurani at the educational institute.
 Similar was the opinion of people who went for the Qurbani through Ashraful Uloom Hyderpora. Moulana Muhammad Yaqoob who runs the educational institute said over 200 people opted for the slaughtering through them.
 “People had paid in advance… Besides many came forward with the payments even during the festival and got the Qurbani done,” Moulana Yaqoob said as people could be seen entering the Ashraful Uloom to collect their share. “Anyone can come to get his share of Qurbani irrespective of whether they had opted for the Qurbani or not,” he added.
 Pertinently while the Qurbani services have been popular in the oil-rich Middle East and even rest of the country, the trend is picking up in the City as well. “We had more of aspirants for the service this year,” said a service provider.
 Observers have called for refrigeration facilities in future so that the Qurbani meat could be stored for longer time.
 “Such institutions should come up with refrigeration of the Qurbani meat so that it could stay fresh for a longer period till it reaches other deserving, particularly the poor,” said prominent medico and columnist on Islamic topics, Dr Fiaz Fazili on phone from Madinah.
