Guru Nanak’s birthday celebrated

rinagar, Nov 10: Guru Nanak Devji's birthday was Thursday celebrated with traditional fervor and enthusiasm while a mega function was held at Gurudwara Chatti Padshahi in Shahr-e-Khaas.
Scores of people of the Sikh community were seen thronging the Gurudwara Chatti Padshahi in the heels of Koh-e-Maran where special Shabadh and Kirtan were performed.
The Gurudwara also hosted a grand Langer. While the Srinagar Municipal Corporation had kept special arrangements in place for sanitation of the City roads, the Traffic police had deployed additional workforce on the roads leading to the temples.
SP Traffic Maqsood-Ul-Zaman said: “Apart from facilitating smooth flow of traffic our men were there to provide requisite assistance to the people.”
S Shakti Pal Singh a columnist said: “Today we are celebrating Parkash Utsav (birthday) of the first Sikh Guru Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji - founder of Sikh religion. Teachings of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji impressed upon oneness of God and love for all creations.”
“Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born in 1469 AD at Nankana Sahib, Lahore. He accomplished Udasis (preaching tours) to different directions and covered almost 14, 000 miles on foot,” Singh said.
“Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji began his second Udasis in 1517 AD and entered Valley in the last phase. His stay at Hari Parbat (Koh-e-Maran and visit to Shankry Acharya temple is recorded in books,” he said.
In an interesting revelation S Shakti Pal Singh said: “At Residency Road, Srinagar where today Acharya Sri Chand Mandir is established Guruji met two renowned persons of that time, Mahatma Shri Abinashi Muni ji and Pandit Shri Parshotam Dass Koul ji. Baba Sri Chand Ji who, elder son of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji stayed at this place (Prof. Seva Singh, 2005) . Later Gurdwara at Amira Kadal was established in his memory.”
