Army provides succour to stranded drivers
Srinagar, Nov 11: Army evacuated 60 stranded people at Gumri on the Srinagar-Leh Highway despite hostile weather conditions.
Reports said the Alpha Sector OC, Major Reema Singh came to know that a convoy of heavy vehicles on way from Leh to Srinagar had got stranded between ‘India Gate’ and Zero Point. Major Reema Singh rushed a patrol party to get the people evacuated, reports said adding that braving hostile weather, Major Anand and his team managed to evacuate the stranded people, mostly drivers to a safe location in nearby Army camp at Gumri.
The people were offered meals and accommodation till the road blockade was removed and they resumed the journey towards Srinagar.
A delegation of the stranded drivers while hailing the Army endeavour said: “It was because of Major Reema Singh that we are safe.”
