Seminar, book exhibition held at KU
NATIONAL EDUCATIONAL DAY
Srinagar, Nov 11: A daylong seminar and book exhibition organized by the Department of Students Welfare, Kashmir University, marked the National Educational Day in the varsity.
The day is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Moulana Abul Kalam Azad, the great writer and educationist who following India’s independence became the first Minister of Education in the government.
Moulana Azad adopted Azad (Free) as his pen name. His contribution in establishing the education foundation of India is recognized by celebrating his birthday as National Education Day across India.
Dean Academic Affairs, Prof A M Shah, who was the chief guest on the occasion, described Moulana Azad a great educationist, who he said was an outstanding scholar. “Moulana Azad moulded the educational system of the country in the immediate post-independence years.”
Education, said Prof. Shah, was tool for social change and Azad was a strong, protagonist of this theory and through his vision in education, he brought lot of changes in the society.
Department of Political Science, Associate Professor, Dr Gul Muhammad Wani, while addressing the gathering said, Moulana Azad was opposed to partition, but once it happened he felt that India and Pakistan must keep friendly relations. He believed that any deviation from that policy could bring trouble.
Noted educationist, Prof A G Madhosh said Moulana was not only transmitter of great ideas on education, but a transformer also.
Associate Dean Students Welfare, Dr Mushtaq A Darzi, in his welcome address spoke about the activities of Department of Students Welfare and said the DSW gives a platform to the students to give vent to their talent.
A book exhibition was also organized on the occasion.
