Govt gears up to check traffic snarls on Sgr-Jammu highway
DECIDES TO SET UP JOINT CONTROL ROOMS AT QAZIGUND, JAWAHAR TUNNEL, BANIHAL
Srinagar, Nov 12: In a bid to ensure smooth flow of traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu highway during winter, Government has decided to set up Joint Control Rooms at Qazigund, Jawahar Tunnel and Banihal.
Officials said the Control Rooms will be managed by representatives from Beacon, Police, Traffic, Army, CRPF and Civil Administration.
The decision was taken during a meeting held at Beacon Headquarters at Rangret, which was chaired by Chief Engineer Project Beacon, Brigadier TPS Rawat. It was decided that proper communication facilities including wireless sets will be provided to the officials manning the traffic on both sides of the Jawahar Tunnel.
The meeting also decided that in case of adverse weather forecast, traffic police will restrict movement of traffic on the Highway as a precautionary measure. The Traffic Department was asked to start a media campaign to make people aware of traffic rules to avoid traffic jams on the Highway particular near the Jawaharlal Tunnel.

Chief Engineer Beacon also informed that Srinagar-Kargil highway has been cleared of snow at Zojila and the roads leading to Karnah, Machil have been reopened in view of the improvement in weather.
