Govt mulls JAKFED tie up with national companies: Manohar

Jammu, Nov 15: Minister of State for Cooperative, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma has said that the possibilities would be explored to strike a tie up with national level organizations to expand the business of JAKFED. He said this would also enable it to make available variety of products to the public at competitive rates.
The Minister was speaking at a function organized by JAKFED in connection with celebration of All India Cooperative week here today, an official statement said.
Minister of State for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD), PDD and Forest Shabir Ahmad Khan, was guest of honour on the occasion.
The Cooperative Minister expressed satisfaction over the achievements of JAKFED during last two years and said that the society would continue to meet the aspirations of the farming community by providing quality fertilizers and other agriculture inputs.
Calling upon the workers to work with greater zeal, the Minister assured that incentives in the shape of advance increments would be provided to meritorious and outstanding employees as a reward. Dr. Manohar stressed upon the management to adopt innovative and result oriented approach so as to make the institution profitable as it is in the interest of the Institution as well as that of farmer community.
The Minister also called for exploring the possibilities to link Cooperative societies with the CA&PD for the distribution of essential commodities, including K-Oil, Wheat etc.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Shabir Ahmed Khan assured every help from CA&PD department for the promotion of cooperative system. He asked the Chairman, Cooperative Union to submit a memorandum to the department highlighting the areas where it can help in promoting the Cooperative societies.
Commissioner/Secretary, Cooperative Mr. Abdul Hamid Wani, Registrar Cooperative Society, Mr. Mohammad Abass Dar, Managing Director JAKFED Mr. Ravinder Gupta and Chairman J&K Cooperative Union Mr. Rajesh Sharma also spoke on the occasion.
Managing Director JAKFED in his welcome address listed various achievements of JAKFED during last two years. He said during this period the Society has paid regular salaries to its employees and also released two DA instalments.
He said besides earning huge profit during last two years, it has also opened 40 new sale outlets and revived fifteen year old snapped ties with national institutions like NAFED for supply of fertilizer. He said the society has also signed an agreement with National level Electronic Company HAVELLS India ltd for opening of two Galaxies, one each at Jammu and Srinagar.
