Srinagar-Leh highway to remain open till Nov end: Akhoon

Jammu, Nov 15: Transport Minister Qamar Ali Akhoon on Tuesday said that Srinagar-Kargil- Leh highway would remain open till ending November for every kind of vehicular traffic.
 Akhoon while chairing a high level meeting here said that in case of any eventuality or fresh snowfall, Beacon authorities shall keep snow cutters and other machinery ready on vital points of the road especially from Captain Morh to Gumri and the Traffic department will monitor movement of vehicles on the road and ensure that no vehicle remains strained on the road from Sonamarg to Kargil.
 The Minster directed the officials of State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) to ply 2 buses from Srinagar to Kargil and back on daily basis so that the people of the area do not face inconvenience. He directed the concerned authorities to ensure that no transporter charges fares in genuinely.
 The Minister said that construction of tunnel at Zojila is need of the hour adding that  feasibility  study report for construction of the same has been completed and the Detailed Project Report (DPR) are expected to be submitted by ending  December this year. He said after construction of tunnel 80% population of Kargil will be benefitted.
