JKLF (R) leaders welcome Arundhati’s statement
Srinagar, Nov 17: The Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (R) chairman, Farooq Ahmad Dar alias Bitta Karatey and senior vice-chairman, Javid Ahmad Mir, have welcomed the statement of noted writer, Arundhati Roy, during a panel discussion on “Kashmir: The Case for Freedom” at the Asia Society in New York, describing it realistic.
Front leaders were addressing a function organized here on “Sacrifices of Kashmiri Martyrs”. The party general secretary, Wajahat Qureshi was also present.
Front leaders thanked all the human rights champions like Arundhati Roy and other intellectuals of India who had raised their voice for Kashmiris’ right of self-determination and resolution of Kashmir issue. They said the resolution of Kashmir was imperative for abiding peace in the subcontinent. “This issue, if left unresolved, has the potential of triggering nuclear confrontation between India and Pakistan which might engulf the whole South Asia in its flames,” they said.
The Front leaders termed as realistic the army statement that if the APSFA was removed from Kashmir, Jammu Kashmir would be free in 2016. They said, “There is no need to do any politics on AFSPA as the people of Kashmir have offered and are offering sacrifices for the past 63 years in general and 22 years in particular for the complete freedom. From 1988 to 2005 people of Kashmir bravely confronted the measures initiated by the armed forces like Operation Tiger, Catch-n-kill, Operation Shiva and severest crackdowns.”
