Militant dies in Shopian encounter

Shopian, Nov 17: A militant of Hizbul Mujahideen was killed during an encounter with security forces at Shalidar village near Keller Shopian Thursday morning.
Police said soldiers of 44 RR and SOG laid a siege of Shalidar village six kilometers away from Keller during which a militant hiding in a residential house tried to escape from the cordon.
“During the ensuing encounter the militant was killed,” police added.
The slain militant, who according to police was a district commander of Hizbul Mujahideen, has been identified as Muneer Ahmad Kalas son of Noor Muhammad R/O Draklaran. Police said he was active in Shopian district for last six months.
