PDP leader among 5 killed in mishaps

Doda, Nov 17: A PDP leader was among five persons killed and one injured in two separate accidents in Doda and Kishtwar districts today.
A Peoples Democratic Party trade union leader, Rehmatullah Malik, was among three persons killed when a car skidded off the road on Batote-Kisthwar highway this morning.
Official sources said the Santro car (JK17-0705) being driven by the PDP leader skidded off the road near Assar. The vehicle fell into more than 500 meters deep gorge killing three persons on the spot and critically wounding another.
Other deceased have been identified as Naseema Begum (42) W/o Ghulam Muhammad Malik R/o Marwah at present Kishtwar and Mehrun Nisa (19). The injured Fiqrul Nisa (21) was referred to Jammu in critical condition.
Around 30 persons have lost their lives and more than a dozen others were wounded in various road mishaps on Batote-Kisthwar highway in last ten days.
Malik was one of the prominent trade union leaders of Kishtwar district and has also contested election on PDP mandate. He was presently general secretary of the trade union wing of the PDP.
In another accident in Sinthan area of Tehsil Chatroo in Kishtwar district, two persons, both employees of the state Rural Development Department, died when their car rolled down into a deep gorge.
