Chib seeks massive funding to clear sports projects
New Delhi, Nov 18: Minister for Youth Services and Sports, R S Chib has made out a strong case for enhancing honorarium of National Youth Corps (NYC) volunteers and Kridashriee under PYKKA, even as he demanded application of Youth Employability Skill (YES) in Jammu and Kashmir on the pattern of North Eastern States.
Addressing State Ministers Conference on youth Affairs and Sports here today, the Minister said that the J&K has created massive sports infrastructure to facilitate youth in sports and games.
The conference was chaired by Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Ajay Makan. Several dignitaries of Sports Council of India, Union Sports Secretary, Sudhashree Khullar were also present on the occasion.
Chib said that J&K had successfully conducted several mega sports tournaments this year. He said Kashmir Premier League (Chinar cup), a cricket tournament was also organized in which 350 matches were played in 10 districts of Kashmir province. A special cricket tournament also successfully concluded in downtown Srinagar in which youngsters in large numbers participated with keen interest, he added.
The Minister thanked the Sports Authority of India for sanctioning whooping Rs 10 crore for construction of sports complex at Wathoora in Budgam. While demanding funds for construction of a multi-purpose hall at Jammu and youth hostels at Gulmarg and Udhampur, he also sought upgradation of Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Complex in Srinagar, which he said has suffered extensive damage during the turmoil.
Chib also expressed gratitude to the Union Minister and his team of officers for showing keen interest in augmenting sports infrastructure and facilitating conduct of games in the State on a large scale.
The Minister said that J&K government has been sanctioned a Football Synthetic Turf at TRC play-ground, Srinagar fully supported by Union Ministry of Sports.
He requested Union Ministry of Sports that the proposals of State government under submission for laying of Football Synthetic Turf at GGM Science College, Jammu and Amar Singh College, Srinagar besides Austro Turf for hockey at Singhpora in Baramulla, 12 archery centres in Ladakh Kashmir and Jammu, water sport centre at Srinagar and youth hostel for winter sports at Gulmarg be also approved and funded.
