Slathia inaugurates blue sapphire auction

Jammu, Nov 18: Minister for Industries & Commerce S S Slathia today inaugurated the auction of world famous Blue Saphire stone held by J&K Minerals Limited for the second time during current financial year at Jawahar Lal Nehru Udhyog Bhawan near Rail head complex Bahu Plaza here.
In 2008, the auction of Sapphire was conducted after 20 years in which the Corporation had realized revenue worth Rs.1.32 crore, an official statement said. The revenue generated through auction in 2009 stood at Rs .74 crore.
During the current year geologists and mining engineers have extracted around 9000 gms of Sapphire.
Interacting with the media, the Minister said that 63 lots weighing 18 kgs approximately have been put to sale in the 2-day auction beginning today.
The main attraction of the auction is 63.60 Gms of crystalline pyramid, fully transparent corn flower blue colour besides 33.95 Gms, 30 Gms, 21 Gms , 14.75 Gms,7.07 Gms, 6.70 Gms, 6.37 Gms and 5.18 Gms sapphire crystals. Semi transparent corn flower blue stone are also available in the auction.
In the inaugural procession, lot number 20 was put on sale at first which went under the hammer at Rs 7.85 Lakhs .
