KU meet on SLM development begins
Srinagar, Nov 1: A seven day workshop aimed to improve and develop the content and presentation of Self Learning Material provided to the distance learners organized by the Directorate of Distance Education, Kashmir University (KU) began here on Monday at the varsity campus.
DDE initiated the process of the training the in-house faculty and teachers from Post Graduate departments of the university and affiliated colleges with leading experts on distance learning acting as coaches. The staff training and research institute of distance education Staff Training and Research Institute of Distance Education (STRIDE) IGNOU is collaborating with the varsity for the workshop.
Dean Academic Affairs, Prof A M Shah, who was the guest of honour, appealed to the teachers to put themselves to learning process, not to be complacent and learn to adapt to changes.
Prof Shah said, in order to produce best self learning material, we need to know what has changed over the years, what is changing and what is likely to change in the times to come. Stating that the distance mode of learning had great potential and scope, Prof Shah appealed to the participants to produce high quality learning material, which is in tune with the contemporary needs of the students.
Director Distance education Kashmir University, Prof Nilofar Khan said the basic objective of the workshop was to create awareness about SLM pattern and impart skills to the participants regarding appropriate styles of writing new packages and also for editing and updating the existing ones.
Prof Santosh Panda from STRIDE, IGNOU, New Delhi said the teaching through SLM was catching on thought the world in the developed as well as the developing countries as competency based self-learning packages solve the learners need as well as bridges the gap between the conventional method of learning and self-learning.
Trained participants of the workshop will be later associated with preparation/updating of learning material on SLM pattern informed, Dr Nahid Ruhi faculty DDE who also conducted the proceedings of the workshop. Dr Tariq Chesti faculty DDE presented vote of thanks.
