Pampore murder case solved: Police
Friends turn ‘killers’
MOAZUM MUHAMMAD
Pampore, Nov 1: Following the abduction and killing of a college student from Saffron town Pampore, Police Tuesday claimed to have solved the case by arresting his two friends while the third accused is evading the arrest.
Addressing a news conference, Superintendent of Police Awantipora Muhammad Irshad Khan said the deceased Kaleem Qadri son of Ghulam Mohiudin of Gousia Colony Pampore was killed by Nazar Muhammad son of late Ghulam Mohiudin Dar of Nowgam and his brother Younis Ahmad along with another friend Javed Ahmad Bhat.
He said the two detained persons have confessed the crime of killing Kaleem saying that they strangulated him by belt in the car.
Since October 28, Irshad said the deceased after dropping his father at Frestabal in his car was untraceable.
“A joint team of Srinagar and Pampore team launched investigations in the case after receiving some vital clues. We learnt Nazar was seen with the deceased in his car at last. We swung into action by detaining him (Nazar) for questioning from his house,” Irshad said.
Flanked by SP East Sheikh Zulfikar, he said the trio hatched a conspiracy against the deceased. “Nazar lured Kaleem towards Srinagar promising him of selling his IPad for a handsome amount. At Lasjan bridge two other accomplices Javed and Younis boarded the car. On way the trio strangulated him with a waist belt resulting in his instant death in the car,” he added.
Following the gruesome murder, he said the trio wrapped his body in a cloth and moved towards Wapora in central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
“They placed his body in the back of the car. In order to kill time, they (the accused) moved around Bemina, Shalteng to dump the body in darkness,” the SP said.
Around 9:30 PM, he said that they tied his body with stones and threw it into a river at Sheerbagh Lasjan on the outskirts of Srinagar city while his car was dumped near Footbridge on the Bund in the city.
“After settling everything, the trio threatened Kaleem’s father on phone demanding Rs one crore from him for which another call will be made next morning. The caller masqueraded himself as Lashkar-e-Toiba militant. However Police detained Nazar the intervening night and cracked the mystery surrounding the case,” said the police officials adding “Deceased Kaleem’s Ipad and cell phone were recovered from Nazar’s residence.”
“After hectic efforts, the body was retrieved from the river and was taken to Police Control Room Srinagar for medical formalities,” said Irshad.
Family members of the deceased thanked the Police for cracking the case within short span of time. They said that Kaleem was fond of mobiles due to which he had developed friendship with the trio as they were running a mobile shop and a computer centre.
Meanwhile, complete shutdown was observed in Pampore town on Tuesday against the gruesome incident.
