Guv for preservation of Pahari art
Jammu, Nov 20: Governor N N Vohra today underscored the need for effective documentation, preservation and showcasing of Pahari Miniature Paintings and other art forms originating from Jammu and Kashmir across the world.
The Governor, as Chief Guest, was addressing a symposium ‘Pahari Miniature Painting traditions with special emphasis on the life and work of Nainsukh, 18th century Pahari painter,’ at Amar Mahal Museum and Library here.
“Art and literature had flourished in Jammu and Kashmir in the centuries past. Organizing such symposiums and lectures by the renowned experts in the field of art and culture will help in creating awareness about the State’s rich artistic and cultural heritage and showcasing it on a much larger scale,” the Governor said.
Referring to his earlier visits to the Amar Mahal Museum and Library, the Governor said that this magnificent historical building possesses a rich collection of miniature and other paintings. He congratulated Dr Jyotsna Singh, Director, Amar Mahal Museum and Library, for organising the function. He suggested exploring possibility for organising similar events in other parts of the Country to enhance awareness of the invaluable treasure embedded in the Pahari miniature paintings.
