NC hits back at Congress over empowerment of Panchayats
COALITION BICKERING
RAJEEV SHARMA
Jammu, Nov 20: National Conference on Sunday countered, though obliquely, its coalition partner—Congress—for its tirade against the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah- over the empowerment of Panchayats and new recruitment policy.
Senior NC leaders, while addressing a day-long convention of the party at Vijaypur, said that some people with “vested interests” were creating confusion among masses about the empowerment of Panchayats and the new job policy.
“The completion of successful Panchayat elections and empowerment of newly elected Panches and Sarpanches are revolutionary steps initiated by the Chief Minister. Some people with vested interests are creating confusion among masses about the powers being given to these elected representatives. People, especially Panches and Sarpanches should remain vigilant against the nefarious designs of these people,” the leaders said.
Minister for Industries Surjeet Singh Salathia, Minister for Higher Education Abdul Gani Malik, Political Advisor to Chief Minister Devender Singh Rana, NC provincial president Rattan Lal Gupta, MLA Bimla Luthra and senior leader Vijay Lakshmi Dutta were prominent among those who addressed the gathering.
The leaders also castigated those who were “misguiding” youth over the new recruitment policy and said the move was aimed at generation of maximum employment for the youth of the state.
