Geelani calls for shutdown on Friday
Srinagar, Nov 21: Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani has called for complete shutdown on November 25, Friday, against, what he said, “continuous detention of political detainees, arrest and detention of 50 minors and torture of Kashmiri detainees in Kote Balwal Jail and Amphala Jail in Jammu.”
Geelani appealed to the International Amnesty and Asia Watch to take serious note of the Kashmiri detainees’ plight and use their influence to have them released.
“There is no let up in the arrests of youth in Sopore, Islamabad (Anantnag) and Srinagar and the Kashmiri detainees are being subjected to severe physical and mental torture in Kot Balwal and Amphala Jails, Jammu,” said Geelani, while addressing a meeting of Hurriyat advisory council here.
Geelani, who presided over the meeting, said, “Writ petitions will be filed in the Jammu Kashmir High Court against the authorities of Kote Balwal Jail and Amphala Jail, Jammu.
The lava of anger and resentment brewing inside the hearts of people as result of killings, arrests and atrocities on people will very soon find its course and erupt like volcano and no power in the world can control it,” said Geelani.
