Anganwadi workers stage protests in Bandipora
Decry delay in release of wages
SUHAIL AJMAL
Bandipora, Nov 22: Hundreds of Anganwadi workers of Bandipora staged peaceful protests here today against the delay in release of wages for past over nine months
The members of the Kashmir Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union (KAWAHU) staged protests demanding release of wages for past nine months. Shamila Begum representing the KAWAHU delegation said that though the higher authorities have released funds for Anganwadi workers and helpers but functionaries in CDPO and District Social Welfare Offices (DSWO) have not paid their wages for past nine months.
“In absence of the wages, the Anganwadi workers are facing immense hardships. We lodged complaints with senior officials of the concerned departments but of no avail. We want to maintain that if our pending wages and honorarium are not released, we will start an agitation,” Shamila Begum said.
The Anganwadi workers have sought intervention of the district administration in the matter.
When contacted the CDPO Bandipora Muhammad Rafique said, “the wages of the Anganwadi workers could not be released due to pending of non- plan share of the Central government.”
