Director SPCB inspects City STPs
Srinagar, Nov 23: The Regional Director Kashmir, State Pollution Control Board, Ali Muhammad Dar Wednesday inspected various sewage treatment plants in the Srinagar City to check their functioning and efficacy.
The STPs are Nishat, Hotel Centaur, Hotel Grand Palace, Hazratbal, Brarinambal, etc. The Regional Director, accompanied by a team of officials of the Board, also inspected the ongoing work on the new STPs being built at Brarinambal and Nallah Amir Khan.
The officer was given a brief on the functioning of the plants and he passed on the spot directions on increasing their efficacy so as to have minimum effect on the recipient water bodies like Dal Lake and river Jehlum.
It is pertinent that SPCB regularly monitors the status of pollution in water bodies and submits reports to the High Court. The Board also checks the performance of the STPs emptying their effluents into the Dal Lake and other water bodies.
