FOREST OFFICIAL ARRESTED FOR SMUGGLING TIMBER

Kupwara, Nov 23: Police today claimed to have caught an official of Forest Department red-handed while smuggling timber in Kamraj Forest Division here.
Deputy Superintendent Police (Headquarters) Kupwara Sajad Khaliq said acting on specific information, a police team arrested Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh, an employee of Kamraj Forest Division along with a civilian Fayaz Ahmad Malik at Kupwara market
“Timber worth thousands of rupees was being carried in a cart by the accused duo” the DSP said. He said a case vide FIR no 386 of 2011 under sections 379 (RPC) and 6 of Forest Act has been registered against the accused.
When contacted Muhammad Sadiq, DFO Kamraj Division said that a departmental inquiry has been ordered against the official. He said the inquiry will be conducted by Range Officer Kupwara.
