Srinagar, Nov 24: Help Poor Voluntary Trust Thursday organized Hepatitis-B vaccination camp for healthcare professionals at its main office near Iqbal Park, Srinagar.
 A HPVT spokesman said: “107 doctors, interns and medical students were administered high quality hepatitis-B vaccines.”
 Terming the initiative as “just and timely”, the vaccinated doctors, appreciated the “pro-active role of HPVT as the risk of contracting hepatitis B by healthcare workers is four times higher than that of the general adult population.”
 “Almost all health care professional are exposed to risk of hepatitis- B due to sharp injuries while dealing with patients,” said a medico.
 A medical consultant associated with HPVT said that globally, chronic Hepatitis B affects approximately 350 million people and contributes to an estimated 620,000 deaths worldwide each year. And it is estimated that 6,00,000 to 8,00,000 cut and puncture injuries occur among healthcare professionals per year, of which approximately 50% are not registered.
