School building collapses, student dies
SHEIKH NAZIR
Chanduna (Ganderbal) Nov 24: A student died and another was injured when a building collapsed in a school compound in this north Kashmir district on Thursday.
A fifth class student Tauseef Ahmad Magray son of Farooq Ahmad Magray of Govt Primary School Patipaikhan Chanduna died and Omar Shafi Bhat was injured when they were playing in the school compound.
“The building that collapsed today housed the same school that was gutted in a fire incident five years back. After the incident authorities constructed a new building in the same compound,” locals said. “For past many years we have been requesting the school authorities to dismantle the building but our pleas fell into deaf ears. Had they listened to us this tragic incident could have been avoided.”
When contacted Deputy Chief Education Officer Ganderbal, Sonaullah Mir said, “The building is adjacent to our school building. Students were playing near it when this and unfortunate mishap occurred.”
