Srinagar, Nov 25: Day after a student died after school building collapsed in north Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon on Friday asked the officials to conduct safety audit of all school buildings in the Valley.
 While chairing the valedictory function of School safety programme for principals and Head-masters of Kashmir Division here, Dr Samoon said, “Disaster preparedness is important as we live in Seismic Zone-V and are vulnerable to earthquakes. Our traditional structures especially Dajji Diwari, Taak and Log houses were earthquake resistant and eco friendly, but we have adopted new techniques without adopting the safety factors. Disaster Management needs to be incorporated in development. If teachers are trained in disaster preparedness they can further impart the training to students, parents as well as the community.”
 Div Com stressed on mapping and inventorising trained man-power and resources and directed that regular mock-drills should be held. The programme was attended by 31 Principals and Headmasters from across the Valley.
