Dr Qasba appointed as member ICPB
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar Nov 27: India Convention Promotion Bureau (ICPB), country’s apex body to promote India more effectively as a convention destination, has appointed Director SK International Convention Centre (SKICC), Dr G N Qasba as its member for his valuable contribution to the Indian Convention Industry.
Dr Qasba is the first member of the ICPB from Jammu and Kashmir and he would serve for tenure of two years.
Hailing Dr Qasba for his active role in promoting SKICC at national and international level, vice chairman of ICPB, Chander Mansharamani, said in a letter: “We have plans to enlarge the scope of membership, have more international exposure through which our members could be benefited and many other plans to make our Bureau more visible and viable. As a mark of appreciation for your valuable contribution to the Indian Convention Industry, the Governing Board is pleased to invite you as a Co-opted Member for the tenure of two years.”
Pertinently, ICPB and SKICC have joined hands to promote Kashmir as a destination for convention tourism.
ICPB, conceived 24 years ago and sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, is today the only travel industry body that can boast of participation from the entire meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) industry with members from central and state governments, hotels, airlines, tour operators, travel agents, exhibition suppliers, professional conference organizers, event managers, educational institutions and more.
According to Dr Qasba, SKICC has state of art conferencing facilities and its auditorium has a distinction of being one of the most equipped conferencing venue in the country with a up to date add on's and maintenance .
“During the recent MICE programmes, its auditorium was used for award celebration ceremonies, musical concerts and finally for the business promotion sessions,” he added.
The feedback received from the experts on MICE, Dr Qasba said, indicates that MICE tourist spends three times more than the average visitor.
“This is more so because the incentive tour is a sponsored one in terms of travel, accommodation, recreation , sight seeing and felicitation etc and the only expenditure which the MICE tourist incurs is shopping which is equally sumptuous and high expenses,” Dr Qasba said.
