LIFT BAN ON ANNUAL ASHOORA PROCESSION: AJKJSA, JKSYF
SYED IMRAN ALI HAMDANI
Srinagar, Nov 27: All Jammu and Kashmir Jaferya Students Association and J&K Shia Youth Forum on Sunday urged the government to lift ban on annual Ashoora procession from Abi Guzar and 8th Muharram procession from Guru Bazar to Hyderia Hall Dalgate here.
Staging protest here, both Associations said: “The government curbs on Ashoora procession are unjustified. It is interference in the religious matter. So we demand that the ban should be lifted at an earliest.”
In a communiqué, Jaferya Association said: “The government’s ban on Muharram procession from Lal Chowk is in place since 1990 and many a times it assured to revoke it. However, nothing substantial has been done so far in this regard.”
The Youth Forum also appealed to the government to revoke the ban.
“If government can make security arrangements for the pilgrims visiting Amarnath Shrine every year, why can’t it provide security to the mourners’ enroute Imam Barah”.
