Kanimozhi gets bail in 2G scam
ANIL ANAND
New Delhi, Nov 28: Delhi High Court on Monday granted bail to DMK MP and party patriarch M Karunanidhi’s daughter, Kanimozhi and four others.
She will finally step out of Tihar jail after having spent nearly six months in confinement in a case related to 2G Spectrum scam.
She will have to wait till the procedures for her release are completed.
After the High Court decision, Kanimozhi spoke to her father. "We both shared our happiness," he said in Chennai. On whether his daughter would get a party post now, he replied, "I am not an autocrat. The party will decide that."
Meanwhile, DMK sources said that she will visit Chennai on Saturday. But her visit would be subject to court directions. She has already been asked by the court to deposit her passport.
The grant of bail ends her long wait to be reunited with her young son as being the mother of a small child was her main bail plea.
Along with her, Sharath Kumar, Asif Balwa, Rajeev Agarwal and Bollywood producer Karim Morani have also been granted bail. Kumar is the Managing Director of Kalaignar TV, a channel in Chennai co-owned by Kanimozhi and her stepmother.
Kumar and Kanimozhi have been accused of allowing their channel to serve as the landing place for a 214-crore kickback that was paid to Raja by Swan Telecom, a telecom company he reportedly obliged with an out-of-turn license in 2008.
Balwa, Agarwal and Morani all allegedly served as conduits for that bribe.
