Safety audit
This refers to the Government’s move to go for safety audit of schools in Kashmir. The move comes after a student died due to school building collapse in Ganderbal district. It is good that Divisional Commissioner Kashmir has asked the officials to conduct safety audit of all school buildings in the Valley. I completely agree with Divisional Commissioner that preparedness is important as we live in Seismic Zone-V and are vulnerable to earthquakes. True, disaster management needs to be incorporated in development and if teachers are trained in disaster preparedness they can further impart the training to students, parents as well as the community. The officials should seriously consider the audit in the interest of the student community. That is the way to ensure safety of our children.
