KU to introduce course on ‘Sociology of Islam'

Srinagar, Nov 5: A one day workshop on framing curriculum for the proposed PG course ‘Sociology of Islam’ to be introduced in the Department of Sociology Kashmir University was organised on Saturday.
 On the occasion, the acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. M A Sofi who presided over the inaugural event, said it is imperative to understand the sociology of Islam. “And for this, introduction of this course at the PG level is of vital importance,” he said.
 Registrar KU Prof. S Fayyaz Ahmad congratulated the Department of Sociology for making efforts to start the course.
 Dean Faculty of Social Science, Prof. M Ashraf Wani stressed on the need to understand Islam in a historic perspective while designing the curriculum for the course.
 Head Department of Sociology and Social Work, Prof. B A Dabla outlined the need to introduce the course and highlighted its relevance in context of Kashmir.
 He expressed hope that the deliberations by experts and guests would help in the framing of a relevant curriculum that would further be discussed in the Department’s Board of Studies. Among others, Dr. Zainuddin from Aligarh Muslim University, Prof. A R Momin former HOD of Sociology University of Mumbai, Ajaz A Kakroo former District Commissioner Srinagar were present in the function.
