Dengue hits Delhi; 10 more test positive
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
New Delhi, Oct 10: Ten more persons tested positive for dengue in the city in the last 24 hours, taking the number of cases this year to 331 even as municipal authorities today said the figure showed a dip of 90 per cent compared to 2010.
A total of 331 dengue cases have been reported this year whereas the figure for the corresponding period last year stood at 3,000, MCD Health Committee Chairman Dr V K Monga said here.
The figure of 331 includes 10 persons who tested positive for the disease in the last 24 hours.
"Ten fresh cases of dengue were reported from different hospitals in the last 24 hours. Most were reported from MCD area alone," Dr Monga said.
However, attributing the decline in the number of cases in comparison to last year to deployment of additional staff to check the menace, he said, "This year we have deployed additional staff to tackle the situation, maintaining round-the-clock surveillance and conducting all possible measures to curb the disease," the official said.
On Malaria, he said 209 cases had been detected in the city with the maximum reported from Najafgarh area in Southwest Delhi.
