Traders threaten stir against power tariff hike
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Oct 10: The recent power tariff hike by the government has evoked sharp reaction in the Valley with consumers terming it as government’s “anti-people” and “anti-traders” move.
“Poor and middle class people are already fighting the pangs of inflation. And now this hike is going to further break their back,” said a consumer.
The traders community has threatened to launch peaceful agitation against the government should it fail to withdraw the hike.
Vice President, Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) Manzoor Ahmad Bhat said the federation has strongly condemned the hike.
Terming it unbearable for the poor people, he said the traders would resist it tooth and nail. “We will chalk out peaceful protest programme if the government fails to withdraw the hike immediately,” he said.
General Secretary, Federation Chamber of Industries Kashmir (FCIK) N A Shikari said instead of curbing the mounting T&D losses, the state is shifting that burden too on the consumers.
He said the hike would affect the industry and retard its growth. “This year we started recuperating but the hike will give us serious blow,” he said.
