Union Secretary reviews Dal, Nigeen conservation
Srinagar, Oct 11: Union Environment and Forests Secretary, Dr T Chatterjee along with a team of officers and scientists of the ministry took an extensive review of the conservation and management of Dal and Nageen lakes, an official handout said.
“The Secretary was informed that substantial progress has been achieved on the activities like Catchment Area Development, Sewage and Sewerage Treatment Works, Hydraulic Works, Restoration and Development Works etc,” it said.
Dr Chatterjee “appreciated the progress achieved in the implementation of the project and assured support of the ministry for sanction of Resettlement and Rehabilitation Project for the relocation of Dal dwellers”.
He also advised the officers to explore the possibility for extraction of methane gas and generation of electricity that could be utilized to run the STPs and other installations being set up under the project. He also agreed to provide technical and funding support for the purpose.
He later, inspected the lake interiors along with the team and took stock of the cleaning measures launched in lake waters.
