7 injured in Bhaderwah clashes

GK NEWS NETWORK

Bhaderwah, Oct 12: Tension gripped this frontier town on Wednesday following violent group clashes in which at least seven persons were injured.
Witnesses said that the trouble erupted when a group of students of the Government Degree College took to streets after a teacher allegedly made some remarks about the religious faith of a particular community in the classroom.
The protesting students, witnesses said, resorted to sloganeering demanding strict action against the teacher.  As the tempers were running high, protestors beat up some students, allegedly of another community, who objected to their demand.
The situation aggravated as hundreds of people from the other community joined the protest and attacked some youth from the other community.
While the college administration called the police to control the situation, the word spread  over to other parts of the town leading to further clashes and rioting.
As the situation went out of control, police fired a few rounds in the air to disperse the protestors, eyewitnesses said.
The tension prevailed for few hours during which sporadic clashes were reported from various parts of the area, sources said.
Reports said at least nine persons were injured in the clashes and were admitted in the sub district hospital.
While the situation was brought under control, the administration deployed police and CRPF personnel in all the sensitive localities.
