Srinagar, Oct 12: The autopsy conducted by the doctors at Government Medical College Srinagar has ruled out any internal injury to the deceased National Conference worker Syed Muhammad Yousuf. The report submitted by the Forensic department of GMC Wednesday has stated heart attack as the reason of his death.
The NC worker died in custody after being handed over to Crime Branch at the residence of Chief Minister on September 30. Following the controversial death, Government had conducted post-mortem at Police Hospital Batamaloo.
“Neither there was any external injury nor internal on his body. It was just a natural death due to myocardial infarction,” said a doctor privy to the report.
Official sources said that the report was submitted by the team of medicos to the Government on Tuesday.
“The report was submitted to District Magistrate on October 11. Stress or hypertension can be one of the predisposing factors in his death,” they told Greater Kashmir.
Interestingly, the family of the deceased had told this newspaper that torture marks were evident on his face. His son Syed Talib said that there was also some strangulation mark on his neck. “There were assault marks on his face as well as neck. Even the photographs of the dead body clearly reveal the truth. On neck a blue stain appeared as if my dad was strangulated,” Talib said.
He elaborated that that there is possibility of some internal injuries as well but the autopsy was conducted by the Government.
“There might have been some internal injury to my father. How can we know about it as the post mortem was performed under Government supervision? Besides, my father’s face was swollen," he had told this newspaper.
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Meiraj Kakroo admitted that the final post mortem report was submitted by doctors on Wednesday morning.
“We have received the report from the team of doctors who conducted autopsy on the deceased. After conducting histopathology, radiology and other laboratory examinations it is clear that Yousuf died of heart attack,” he said.
The report, he said, has been submitted with Additional District Magistrate Muhammad Akbar and the investigation is on.
“He (Akbar) has started proceedings in the case under 176 CrPC. The investigation will be on professional lines,” he told Greater Kashmir.
