Pottery workshop ends
GK NEWS NETWORK
Awantipora, Oct 11: A two day pottery workshop ‘Re-shaping Kashmiri Pottery’ concluded at Islamic University of Science and Technology here on Wednesday.
“Watching them mixing the clay, wedging and trimming it, giving it a shape, then putting it on a wheel and finally letting it dry is quite fascinating and relaxing for us”, Sheikh Aruj, a B.Tech student said.
She said such workshops should be held regularly. “We want to learn this art to carry it forward with a zeal and encourage traditional potters”, Aruj added.
“The workshop was a part of the community development programs started by the university”, Shazia Shafi Coordinator Community Relations said.
The studio potter at Darashukon Center for Art and an art hobbyist, Dr Jyoti Singh demonstrated the innovative and interesting techniques in the workshop to attract more and more students join the workshop. “It will also help traditional potters re-introduce the art,” she said.
The students of School of Business Studies also presented a marketing plan to potters for its revival.
“Pottery designs should not be confined simply to patterns created on terracotta object. They should be shaped in such a stylish manner that will make it different and more attractive than the ordinary”, Amir Javaid, an MBA student said. “It will also make it acceptable to the market.”
