SMC seizes polythene, faces wrath in Bemina

Srinagar, Oct 12: Srinagar Municipal Corporation’s Anti-polythene squad had to face wrath of miscreants while seizing around 40 quintals from Bemina area of west City.
A civic body handout Wednesday said: “SMC’s anti polythene squad conducted raid at Housing Colony, Bemina in the shop of Bilal Ahmad Shagoo, a polythene dealer.”
“The locals initially fully cooperated with squad, but when huge quantity of polythene was recovered suddenly some young people started pelting stones at SMC staff,” it said.
“At the arrival of police and Executive Magistrate, the owner was persuaded to open shop and huge quantity of banned polythene was seized from the shop and house of the offender,” the SMC officials said adding the miscreants started pelting stones on the squad and beat them ruthlessly.
“The injured staff/Anti Polythene Workers were immediately taken for treatment to SKIMS (JVC Bemina) and FIR was lodged against the offender for assaulting the Municipal staff,” the SMC handout said.
“The Municipal Cameraman Farooq Ahmad Kakroo had a narrow escape as he was beaten up by a group of seven persons and reportedly D-40 Camera has been snatched from him besides other accessories and cash amounting to Rs.6,210,” it added.
