Taj warns NHPC of legal action
SUHAIL AJMAL
Managam (Bandipore), Oct 12: The Minister for Irrigation and Flood Control, Taj Mohiuddin on Wednesday warned National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) of legal action if it failed to produce the licenses by November 12 this year, the deadline set by the Government.
“It is a legal issue and NHPC has to produce the documents if its fails to do so we will have to act as per the law,” Taj told reporters here in north Kashmir on sidelines of a function.
Taj said the state government had started the process to seek return of the Salal and Uri-I power project from the NHPC. “Till now Company has not responded,” he said. “We are trying to get the ownership of power projects, commissioned by NHPC, back.”
“The process of taking back the power projects from NHPC is in the interests of the state and central government,” he said.
Pertinently, the state government had set up November 12 as deadline for the Corporation to complete the formalities for continuing operation under State Water Resource Act in the state. Afterwards we will be bound by the Act to stop them (NHPC) from operating the projects.
