3 former players to be given life time achievement award

Srinagar, Oct 13: On the eve of Greater Kashmir knockout Football Tournament Final, the organizers, J&K Football Association (JKFA) and Greater Kashmir Communications Pvt Ltd have decided to confer three former players of State with life time achievement award.
The final of the event would be played between JK Police-XI and JK Forest-XI on Saturday at polo ground. On the occasion the organisers of the event have decided to honour three former players with prestigious life time achievement award for their services towards JK football. The three short listed players are Abdul Khaliq, Mehrajuddin Khan and Frooq Ahmad Bhat. All the three represented the State during 60’s to 80’s.
Abdul Khaliq has been selected from goalkeeping category. He played during 70’s and 80’s for highly popular club of State JKSRTC. He was also captain of JK Team on various occasions.
Mehrajuddun Khan alias Mehraj Maidani has been selected in defender category. He played for Food and Supplies side till 1975 and also attended JK Team on several national trips.
Farooq Ahmad Khan, popular footballer of his time has been selected in striker category. He played till 1975 for JKSRTC and was reckoned as star face of his club and JK Team during his time. He also captained JK Team on many occasions.
In addition to aforesaid awards, the organisers have also decided to honour four former International players for their active role in football arena as coach and mentor after hanging their boots as player.
The players short listed are Abdul Majeed Kakroo of JK Bank, Muhammad Shafi Nari of JK Police, Ranjeet Singh of JK Police and Rajesh Kumar of JK Bank.
“It is part of our efforts to honour our legends for their contribution towards football in the State. By honouring them, we are actually honouring football in itself as their contribution towards the game of football in State has been immense” said JKFA spokesperson.
“We recently started the campaign of honouring our former stalwarts. In that direction we organised veteran’s match, which was appreciated by one and all. Now continuing our efforts we decided to honour three players with life time achievement award on the eve of Greater Kashmir knockout football tournament final, which is scheduled to be played on Saturday” he added.
He hailed GK Communications Pvt Ltd Management for coming forward to help JKFA in the initiative taken by it.
“We are thankful to GK Communications Pvt Ltd management for coming forward to help us in our initiative to honour former players. When we put forward our plan of awarding players, the GK management readily accepted it and gave us go ahead signal” JKFA Spokesperson said.
