On International Disaster Reduction Day, Div Com pitches for School Safety programs

Srinagar, Oct 13: Flagging off a rally on International Disaster Reduction Day, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Abdul Majid Mir stressed for starting of disaster preparedness programs at “each and every school” in the state.
Mir said “there’s a need to take disaster preparedness to each and every school of the state by starting School Safety programmes, so that the young children are better prepared to handle any eventuality.”
He was speaking at the event flagged off in presence of other officials including Deputy Inspector General of Police, Civil Defence & Home Guards, Mubarak Ahmed Ganai.
The International Disaster Risk reduction Day is observed every year on October 13th to raise awareness about how to reduce risks to disasters. It also encourages participation in building resilient communities. This year the theme is “Making Children and Young People Partners for Disaster Risk Reduction”.
Those who were present on the occasion included Commandant Auxiliary Police 1st Bn, Mehrajuddin Shah, Secretary Regional Red Cross Committee, Abdul Jabbar Chakat, Dy Chief Warden Mauzam Bakshi, Head Disaster Management, Aamir Ali, Dy Controller Civil Defence, Rafiq Ahmed and Chief Education Officer, Srinagar, Fatima Bano.
Students from various schools including SP Hr Secondary School, Govt. Middle School Jawahar Nagar School, Rahi Public School, Govt. Hr Secondary School, BK Pora, Govt. High School Pantha Chowk participated.
