KU-IUCAA workshop on ‘stellar astrophysics’ begins
Srinagar, Oct 24: A three-day workshop on “Stellar Astrophysics“ organized by the Department of Physics University of Kashmir in collaboration with Interuniversity Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) Pune began in the Kashmir University campus on Monday.
Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kashmir, Prof. M A Sofi presided over the function wile as IUCAA Director, Prof. Ajit Kembhavi was the chief guest.
Prof Ajit Kembhavi discussed various facets of the “Stellar Astrophysics” and said there was need for strengthening the field of Astrophysics and Astronomy among all the Universities in the Country. He praised the students of University of Kashmir whom he said have excellent academic and research potential.
Prof Ajit discussed at length the facilities that IUCAA was extending to various Universities and its Associates for strengthening the field of Astrophysics and Astronomy in various universities,
Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof M A Sofi gave a detailed outlook on the scientific aspects of this workshop and congratulated the Department of Physics for organizing such an event. After the inaugural function a detailed public talk “Extra Solar Planets” Worlds beyond the Solar System” was presented by Prof Ajit Kembhavi.
Dr Naseer Iqbal of the Department of Physics and Prof. Ranjeev Misra of IUCAA Pune are coordinating this workshop jointly.
Prof. Ranjan Gupta, Prof. Swara Ravindranath, Registrar Prof. Fayyaz Ahmad and Dean Academic Affairs Prof. A M Shah also spoke on the occasion.
Earlier, Professor S. Javid Ahmad Head Department of Physics highlighted the ongoing activities in the Department and stressed the need of having such kind of activities on regular basis. He said such activities also provide a platform to bring all the interested participants of related field together.
Many students, scholars, teachers and some of the outstation participants attended this public talk which was followed by question answer session.
