‘Unheard cries’ released
KHALID GUL
Islamabad (Anantnag), Oct 30: It was an emotional moment for 21-year-old Irfan Nazir, from Vesu village of this South Kashmir district whose compilation of poems on the ongoing Kashmir conflict titled ‘Unheard Cries’ was released here today.
“Since I have grown up, I have seen the voices of dissent being muzzled by the state. But that does not mean we will close our eyes and take it as our destiny. We owe a responsibility towards society and this book is a small attempt towards that direction,” said Irfan, who is a B.A pass out from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
He said in his poetry book he had tried to identify himself with a common Kashmiri and give vent to their pains and sufferings.
Jammu and Kashmir Yateem Trust patron, Zahoor Ahmad Tak, who was the chief guest on the occasion while appreciating the endeavor of the author said, “ It is very heartening to see somebody speaking for the oppressed Kashmiris and the author who is very young deserves appreciation”.
He advised the author not to get demoralized by the criticism he may have to face, but rather take it positively.
Boys Degree College, Islamabad (Anantnag), Head of Department English, Professor, Farooq Ahmad, who presided over the function emphasized on the use of metaphors in the poetry.
“The metaphors should have been used instead of names in the collection so as to provide it a global theme,” Professor Farooq suggested.
He, however, termed the efforts of the author as a good beginning and hoped that he (Irfan Nazir) would fully utilize his potential in poetry.
