This refers to the article, “Want to be a teacher” by Altaf Khan. Author has rightly criticized the evaluation system of some universities outside J&K but has failed to bring the other part of this picture in seen. High percentage at PG level is not the only factor, yes together with a B.Ed, M.Ed degree brings out a chance. Unfortunately Kashmir University has turned out to be a mill for furnishing B.Ed, M.Ed certificates. With mushroom growth of private B.Ed colleges in the valley, the university is really finding it too cumbersome to check the questionably high role of students studying in these two roomed, so called professional colleges. These colleges have turned out as the business centers, charging high money from the students who in turn enjoy the all round lenient academic atmosphere in these colleges. All this has made B.Ed a futile exercise as it has lost its professional spirit. Better have an aptitude test for selection of teachers as it is only than we can separate wheat from the chaff.
