The day holds a historic importance

The freedom struggle in Kashmir entered in its 7th stage, when the foundation of the Government of Independent Kashmir was laid on 4th October 1947 at Rawalpindi, when the Kashmiris selected Khwaja Gulam Nabi Gilkar Anwar to head the mission. On Ist October 1947, a temporary Government was found in Junagarh and the Nawal was deposed. As such the Kashmiri political works in Rawalpindi met and prepare a draft manifesto prepared by Malik Abdul Rehman Khadin.
      On 3rd October 1917, a meeting of Kashmiris political workers met in Paris Hotel Rawalpindi. After discussion a resolution was passed deposing Maharaja Hari Singh from the ruler-ship of the State, establishment of an Independent Democratic Government of Jammu and Kashmir with Khwaja Gulam Nabi Gilkar as its temporary president till final election.
      A copy of this resolution was put to the Radio Pakistan, APP as well as India and Pakistan media.
 Khwaja Gulam Nabi Gilkar was chosen as President,  Sardar Mohammad Ibrahim Khan as Prime Minister,  Syed Nazir Hussain as Finance Minister,  Muhammad Gulam Hyder as Defense Minister and  Gulam Ahmad Khan Publicity Minister.
      On 6th October 1947, Khwaja Gulam Nabi Gilkar Anwar proceeded towards Srinagar. He met Shaikh Mohammad Abdullah at his residence on 8th October 1947, and had discussions with for about 2.30 hours. He pleaded for a meeting between Shaikh Sahib and Qaidi-i-Azam.
      He was arrested by the Maharaja’s Government in December 1947 and later relieved in exchange with Brigadier Gandara Singh, the governor of the Dogra Maharaja in Gilgit, who was released along with others from prison on the 15th January 1949.
