Governor for mass awareness campaign against Drug Abuse

Srinagar, Oct 7: Governor NN Vohra Friday emphasized the “need for adopting a multi-disciplinary approach to effectively address the serious problem of drug abuse”.
 He was talking to a delegation of the Civil Society Forum (CSF), Srinagar, who called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan.
 As per an official handout, Vohra suggested the involvement of religious leaders and social activists in launching a large scale awareness campaign against drug and other addictions, adding that the print and electronic media and other means of mass communication would also require to be involved and urged to play their vital role in enabling such a campaign to be successful.
 Observing that a “sound Drug Policy would require to be founded in an effective law to regulate the use of drugs”, the Governor “assured the CSF that he would take up this important issue with the Health Minister and the Chief Minister”
 The delegation comprised   former City Mayor Salman Ali Sagar,   AM Magray, Dr Ishaq Geer,   MA Gora and   Sheikh Imran. RK Goyal, Principal Secretary to the Governor was present on the occasion.
 The delegation submitted to Governor a memorandum of their demands.          The demands presented by a 6-member delegation led by   Omer Shafi Trumboo, Secretary General of the Forum, included:  “Interalia, revisiting the draft Drug Policy to make it more comprehensive and its early implementation in the State; taking effective measures for addressing the menace of drug addiction; and, ensuring availability of quality drugs to the people.”
