Govt middle school Khawjabagh stands out for academic excellence
ALTAF BABA
Baramulla, Sep 9: With government run schools always coming under sharp criticism for dismal performance of their students in examination and other activities, the Government Middle School Khawjabagh is showing better performance with its students bringing laurels to the educational institution.
The school has an excellent academic record with 100 per cent result in class 8th examination from the past several years.
According to the locals, the students have bagged many medals during their participation in the cultural activities. “The students brought laurels to the educational institution during a recently held exhibition at SKICC, in which many schools displayed the crafts prepared by the children under National Programme of Education for Girls at the elementary level,” they said.
“The school has nine rooms including a computer laboratory, a separate room for girl students were they learn cutting, tailoring and knitting,” the locals said.
Declared by the SSA authorities as a model school, the principal, Jawida Akhtar was recommended by the Chief Education Officer Baramulla for the state award.
The recommendation letter reads: “The Committee observed that Jawida Akhtar, posted at GMS Khawjabagh Baramulla has brought laurels to the department of Education by working hard and shaping the school into a model school. The Committee thus recommends the Jawida Akhtar for the best teacher award category.”
However, the authorities at the helm of affairs chose not to endorse the recommendation of the Committee and didn’t honored the principal with the award, which otherwise could have been a token of appreciation for her dedication, the locals said.
“We were sure that principal of this school, who has changed its outlook, will be awarded. But, we were disappointed not to find her name among the award winners,” said Ghulam Rasool, a local resident.
“Awards acknowledge the efforts of an individual in his/her working field. Though principal of this school, who has done a commendable job for the school, has not been chosen for the award, but we the residents of this area are highly satisfied with the principal” he added.
