Weigh Bridge to come at Sonamarg
Sonamarg, Sep 9: Minister for Transport and Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) Qamar Ali Akhoon laid foundation stone of Weigh Bridge to be installed at a cost of Rs 83 lakhs.
On the occasion, the Minister said that there was dire need of the Weigh Bridge on Srinagar-Kargil-Leh highway to check and control the menace of overloading which causes problems for the administration as well as the drivers, who have to cross the Zojila pass which is more than 16000 ft above the sea level.
The Minister was informed that installation work of this first fully computerized Weigh Bridge with all modern techniques would be completed and made operational by mid October this year. The second bridge on the same place would be installed by shifting of existing old Weigh Bridge which will take some time, he added.
He said that every Kargil and Ladakh bound vehicle including the trucks of FCI, Army and other civil trucks have to cross this Weigh Bridge. He said that every vehicle should carry maximum load of none ton beyond which no vehicle will be allowed to carry load.
