HBOA ELECTION ROW

Srinagar, Sept 10: In a twist to the story on the Houseboat Owners Association row, a local Court on Saturday directed police to take “action under law” against Muhammad Yaqoob Dunoo, who as per Tourism department has no houseboat registered in his name. Dunoo last month accused Manzoor Ahmed Wangnoo, the caretaker Chairman of the HBOA of creating hurdles in the association elections while the latter had refuted the charges.
Today Wangnoo through his counsel prayed before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate that Dunoo “was creating hurdles in the HBOA elections by filing fribilous and false litigations before various civil courts in which he has concealed that the facts that no houseboat was registered in his name.”
The Court directed the concerned SHO to take action.
Deputy Director Tourism vide a letter to the HBOA said: “In reference to your letter No.HBOA/26 dated 8-9/2011, it is to inform you that no houseboat is registered in the name of Mohammad Yaqoob Dunoo as per records available in the office.”
Wangnoo had been saying that he wasn’t creating hurdles in the holding of elections but wanted to get a General Body held before the elections so that the “achievements/drawbacks and accounts” could be put to scrutiny. And also that the election dates get finalized, the caretaker Chairman said.
But Dunoo had accused him of creating hurdles in the holding of elections. Despite repeated attempts, he couldn’t be contacted for comment.
