Prof Talat distributes aid among disabled students
Asks people to build self esteem of such persons
Srinagar, Sep 10: University of Kashmir Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Talat Ahmad Saturday distributed cheques worth Rs three lakh among differently abled students, orphans and poor studying in the varsity and its affiliated colleges at a function organized by the Kashmir University Alumni Association.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Talat Ahmad, who is also president of the KUAA, emphasized the need to build self-esteem and self-pride among differently abled persons.
Deliberating on the role of society towards differently abled, he said, “What makes us different is that we should help others to live a better life, by helping them emotionally and psychologically.”
“Everybody has a right to live with dignity and if we provide training and other facilities to these people they can contribute towards the development of the society,” the Vice-Chancellor added.
Prof Talat said besides KUAA aid, University of Kashmir had adopted a scheme "Student Aid Fund" under which a financial assistance was extended to students, particularly the meritorious ones who come for low income groups.
Organizer of the event and general secretary of KUAA, Prof. Me’raj-ud-Din said KUAA was taking several initiatives for the betterment of special children in the campus. He said the Kashmir University Alumni Association provides financial assistance to students with a poor economic background, physically challenged and the preference was given to students who are orphans.
KU Registrar, Prof S Fayyaz appreciated the efforts of the KUAA in helping the differently abled students and called it a ‘huge achievement’. The Association has done a commendable job in tapping the funds and using them for welfare of such persons, he added.
Dean academic affairs Prof A M Shah, Senior faculty department of Education Prof N A Nadeem, Prof Neelofar Hassan Khan, C L Vishan president Private B. Ed College Association were also present on the occasion.
Pertinent to mention that KUAA has memberships from all the Alumni of the university and it is also being aided by Private Bed Colleges of the valley.
