Informative article

Kudos to Prof MA Sofi for the article titled "Of Skill and Knowledge" (GK September 8). Such informative articles are need of the hour as they clear confusions and also help in approaching Qu’ran and Science without pre-conceived notions. In many mosques even translations of the Holy Quran are not tolerated and are removed with impunity. However, having said this, let us see what our scholars in sciences with no apparent religious influence do towards creating knowledge in their respective fields. Don't most of us create mediocre stuff right from school to university level? If some exceptions shine in our system of education, it is usually in spite of us than because of us. The tragedy is that we do not lack potential and our teachers and scholars are second to none. What we lack is the accountability in the system and the burning desire to excel in our respective fields. Unless we imbibe the virtues that are fundamental to excellence in a field of knowledge, reciting holy scriptures and 'acquisition' of knowledge shall continue to remain a listless activity.
