Directs To Prepare Tehsil Wise Inventory Of Auqaf Property

Jammu, Sep 14: The Minister of State for Haj and Auqaf  Ajiaz Khan today asked the  State Wakaf  Council to prepare Tehsil wise  inventory of Auqaf  property and the list of the persons to whom it has been rented out.
 The Minister issued the instructions while chairing a meeting convened to review the functioning of the council with regard to management of the Waqaf assets, collections of rent and upkeep of Ziarats across Jammu Division.
 The Minister asked the Council functionaries to prepare the detail of the   wakaf property situated under the jurisdiction of each field Inspector whether notified or un-notified, nature of the  property, whether commercial, residential, open etc including number of shops and buildings. He also directed the council to prepare the detail of tenants and the time of occupation, specifying whether legal or illegal, detail of property encroached, complete detail of the encroacher viz area under the occupation, time since the encroachment has been made.
 The Minister asked the council authorities to act tough against the encroachers on the Waqaf land and put the same to best use to improve the revenue collections.
  “For safeguarding the wakaf property and taking proper action against the defaulters as well as the illegal encroachers, a complete comprehensive detail of such occupants is required for taking measures for recovery”, the minister asserted.
 Stressing for taking effective steps to retrieve the wakaf property from  illegal  occupation of the government departments, defense forces and private persons, he said that  monthly progress with regard to the removal of such encroachments as well as the status of the wakaf properties retrieved from encroachers be asked for from all concerned administrators.
 The Minister also directed for the creation of adequate facilities at the Jammu Eidgah for the convenience of the people during Eid prayers.
 The Minister stressed for hosting of a Council website to post   every bit of detail of the Wakaf property, its functioning, list of tenants and yearly collections on account of rent and the donations in Ziarats, as a step to enforce accountability in its functioning.
 The Minister also called for effective and efficient management of ziarats and said that steps have been taken in past but there is still scope of improvement for maintaining higher degree of  transparency and accountability.
 The meeting was told that committees has been constituted for counting income for each  Ziarats   comprising  Administrator, as chairman, SDPO of the concerned police station and treasury officer and two prominent citizens as members . It was further revealed that  monthly income statement of each ziarat was being  displayed on notice board, roaster for opening of the chests of each ziarats, providing uniforms and badges to the staff engaged at all ziarats by the respective tehsil Aquaf Committee in order to easily identify them besides installation of CCTVs cameras on the main income generating ziarats, complete detail of offerings received in the shape of jewellery, livestock, eatables etc other than cash and proper maintenance of the record of the receipt and disposal of each item.
