NC traded everything for power: Mehbooba
MUHAMMAD TASKEEN
Gool (Ramban), Sep 14: The president of the Peoples Democratic Party Mehbooba Mufti, Wednesday alleged that the ruling National Conference had always traded interests of state for power.
“From power projects to the natural resources, the successive NC governments have mortgaged everything before the center for power”, she said, while addressing a public meeting, here today.
She alleged that state had potential to earn more than Rs 50000 crore annually from its water resources but Dr Farooq Abdullah, as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, mortgaged the people’s interest before the then BJP led NDA government only to secure berth for his son in the union council of ministers.
Reiterating resolve of her party to aggressively pursue the agenda of peace and development in the state, Mehbooba sought support of the people to take party’s agenda to the far flung areas.
She said that active participation of people was must to bring positive change in their areas. She said that PDP-Congress regime had brought some positive changes in the state and had created a sense of security among people due to the support of the people.
Reminding the people about various measures taken by the party after it formed the government in 2002, the PDP Chief recalled the government led by her party had stopped oppressive policy and provided healing touch to the people to heal their wounds.
“Draconian laws like POTA were immediately revoked after formation of PDP –Congress regime,” she said and added that Task Force was brought under control and security forces were made to behave in humane manner.
“Not only security scenario was improved during PDP-Congress regime but development activities were also accelerated and special attentions were paid towards neglected and backward belt”, she said.
Expressing her concern over “rampant corruption” in the state, she said that menace of corruption has sneaked deep from bottom to top during the last three years and poor people were the worst sufferers of the prevailing system.
Senior party leader Ved Mahajan in his address said that except promises the present regime has done nothing during the last three years to solve basic problems of the people.
He said that it was result of the wrong policy of the present government that misery of people have increased manifold.
